Today we are looking at a special custom jewelry design, a bespoke engagement ring that we made right here via our in-house service at Diamonds by Raymond Lee.
We will take you through our step by step process (pictures included) for creating this custom pear shaped diamond halo engagement ring…

Inspiration for this custom design engagement ring
We wanted to create a classic yet modern, absolutely stunning engagement ring…
So, after brainstorming, we came up with the following details:
- Pear shaped centerpiece (diamond shape meaning)
- Halo setting
- Pave diamond band
- 18K White Gold
We knew these features would make for a breathtaking “white-on-white” engagement ring with contemporary brilliance and vintage appeal.
Our Step By Step Process for Creating this Custom Design Engagement Ring
Custom ring and jewelry design is Diamonds by Raymond Lee and Raymond Lee Jeweler’s premium service. We’ve been doing this for decades, thus we are experts at custom ring designs.

Sketches
After coming up with the concept, we started by sketching out the ring to give us an idea of how it would look.
The illustration was done by our master custom jewelry designer.
We were happy with the illustration, which had the general idea, so it was time to move on…
Choosing the Diamond Centerpiece
Next, we looked through our vast selection of diamonds to choose a diamond centerpiece and accent diamonds for the ring.
We knew we wanted a pear shaped diamond, and this was the one we choose.
This GIA certified pear diamond is of an excellent grade and it has imposing brilliance. We immediately knew we had a winner.
CAD 3D Model
Once we choose the diamonds and raw material, we took the illustration to the next level by creating a Computer Aided Design (CAD) model.
Our CAD software has a plethora of options for detailing. So, this enabled us to get exact dimensions and design features, thus bringing our rough draft 2D sketch to the finalized 3D design.
From here, we create a wax model, which truly brings our design to this dimension.
Creating Wax Molds
Now the molding process starts.
We began by outlining the pear diamond centerpiece in a wax mold.
Then using our high tech machine and CAD, we cut the mold perfectly to create the halo setting. A halo setting features diamonds encircling a centerstone, which is why the pear diamond is surrounded by a thick layer of pear shaped wax.
The next step would be to cut out and detail the halo setting with laser technology so all the accent diamonds could be set in it, as you can see here.
We also created the first molding of the band. There is a lot of wax surrounding the center of the band as we need to do the same process of cutting and detailing it so we can add the pavé diamonds.
Here is what it looked like when we finished the wax mold.
The pear diamond fits perfectly! The dimensions, shape, size and structure were exactly as intended.
All of the facets on the band and halo setting will be fitted with round brilliant diamonds during the next step, which is forging an exact replica of the wax model from the precious materials we chose – 18K white gold.
Casting the Ring in 18K White Gold
This is the step where fire meets gold, and gold meets wax…
Our master jeweler cast the wax model in 18k white gold.
Using state-of-the-art equipment, our wax model is secured and ready to be melted away by molten gold. We take flames to the metal grain and then once melted, it’s poured into a cylinder that contains investment plaster and the wax model. From there, we cool the cylinder, remove the byproduct, and all that is left is the solid gold band and halo setting.
This is how they look after being cleaned. However, the pieces are not refined as they haven’t been polished yet. That will come soon.
As you can see in the pic above, the small round brilliant diamonds are ready to be set. We choose these diamonds from a tray countless round brilliant diamonds as if we are picking change from huge savings jar…except this change is worth a lot more than a just quarter.
Setting the Diamonds
We first set the accent diamonds in to create the halo.
A halo is a great setting as it allows for the centerpiece to shine with all of its brilliance and beauty, and it keeps the diamond more secure and safe from damage than a solitaire setting does. Not to mention, it maximizes the centerpiece’s appearance…
We then set the fierce pear shaped diamond in the halo setting. It is set so that the centerpiece is completely secure, forever. This is when we got our first sight of the astonishing custom design engagement ring that was soon to be.
Next up was the band…
Using the same technique, we secured the diamonds in place on the band with tiny beads and the perfect amount of tension.

The master jeweler fixed the pear shaped diamond halo setting to the band and it was time for the finishing touches…
Finishing Touches
Now all that was left was to give the ring that beautiful high polished finish. The finishing was done by hand with skill that can only be acquired through decades of practice.
Final Creation of our Custom Design Engagement Ring
This is our finished product, a stunning, 18K white gold pear shaped diamond halo engagement ring with a pave diamond band, all polished with a heavenly radiant sheen finishing.
We are extremely happy with how this custom design engagement ring came out. The diamonds shine impeccably, the finishing is immaculate, and the shape and structure is large and in charge.
