HOW FAR WOULD YOU GO FOR LOVE? Choosing the right Cartier Love bracelet size can be surprisingly challenging. So, we put together a complete guide to choosing the right Cartier Love bangle size for you! This is Cartier Love bracelet sizing made easy 🙂
What is a Cartier Love bracelet?
The Cartier LOVE bracelet was invented in New York City in 1969 by Italian-born American jewelry designer Aldo Cipullo. The story behind the Cartier Love bracelet (or bangle more specifically) is fascinating.
A Cartier Love bangle doesn’t open without a screwdriver (they all come with one). And, it can’t be put on without opening it up, unlike normal bangles which are wide enough to slip on a wrist without opening.
The Love bracelet has to do with security of one’s relationship. The thought behind it is, if you offer the Love bracelet to your significant other, you are “locking her in” for the long run. The screw motifs are a wonderful touch to further emphasize the point.
It’s not surprising that this passionate piece of jewelry has become an iconic and timeless tribute to romance. It’s absolutely gorgeous. Love bracelets are an ideal oval shape, and they are unquestionably elegant. They come in yellow gold, white gold, or pink gold and you have the option for studded diamonds as well.
Famous celebrities love the LOVE bracelet and this has further boosted it to become the most coveted bracelet for women around the world.
If you are looking to buy a Carter Love bracelet, one of the most important things to consider is SIZE. In this article, we will provide you with everything you need to know about Cartier Love bracelet sizes. This is the ultimate guide to learning about and choosing the perfect Cartier Love bangle size.
Cartier Love Bracelet Small vs Regular Version
First, there are two types of Cartier Love bracelets – The Love Bracelet (regular) and Love Bracelet Small model.
Both the Love Bracelet and Love Bracelet Small come in 18K Yellow, White and Pink Gold and they have the option for studded diamonds.
Which is better, Cartier Love Bracelet Thick vs Thin?
There are a few differences between the Love Bracelet Regular and Small version.
The Small is thinner. And if you get the diamond studded version, it has 10 brilliant-cut diamonds totaling 0.21 carats.
The Regular is of course thicker. And if you get the diamond studded version, it has 4 brilliant-cut diamonds totaling 0.42 carat
All bracelets are sold with a screwdriver.
The differences have nothing to do with the size of the circumference, i.e. wrist size.
So, what about wrist sizes? Do Cartier love bracelets come in different sizes?
Of course! Here it is…
Cartier Love Bracelet Sizes
Both the small and the regular Love Bracelet come in 7 different sizes:
The same sizes apply to any variation of the Love bracelet.
All regular Cartier Love Bracelets are 6.2mm wide and 2mm thick.
What if I need a smaller or larger Cartier Love Bracelet Size?
If you need a size that is above 21cm or below 15cm you can ask a retailer for a special size. Retailers like Diamonds By Raymond Lee can provide sizes based on customer’s requests.
How do you measure your wrist for a Cartier Love bracelet?
There are two ways to determine your Cartier Love bracelet size. We recommend using the first method below.
Measure your wrist
You can use either a tape measure or you can download and print the Cartier Wrist Sizer.
Cartier Wrist Sizer (best option)
Note: If you use the Cartier Wrist Sizer above, before printing, be sure the “Page Scaling” option is set to “None” in the dialogue box. Also, the Cartier Wrist Sizer needs to be printed on full-size A4 paper.
Follow the instructions and make a note of your wrist size.
- Cut out the wrist sizer from the A4 paper carefully. Cut a small line where it says to cut on the wrist sizer.
- Curl the wrist sizer into a circle and insert the pointed end through the small opening that you just cut.
- Place your hand through the wrist sizer and delicately pull the pointed end that’s between the slit until the wrist sizer is encircling your wrist comfortably. It should be just tight enough that it measures your wrist accurately but not too tight that it presses in on your skin. Also, it should be measured around your wrist bone, which will be the highest point of your wrist.
- The number that is aligned with the arrow is your wrist size. If the measurement is between two sizes, use the larger size if you have any doubts (we mentioned this further above). However, take this added .5cm into consideration when adding the “1-2cm for Cartier recommended fits (tight, exact, loose)”.
Cartier is a European company so all measurements of Love bracelets are in centimeters.
Use a tape measure. Wrap the tape measure around the wrist on which you plan to wear your Cartier bracelet. Make a note of the number at the point where the tape meets the 0.
To ensure the bracelet fits comfortably, add 1.5 cm to your wrist measurement. From here, you can add or subtract half a centimeter if you’d like, based on your preference.
Cartier Love Bracelet Size Guide
Sizing a Cartier Love bracelet is a bit trickier than it sounds. You will see this with a simple Google search or looking around on forums. Women are always asking which size should they get and “how should a Cartier Love bracelet fit?”
The difficulty in choosing a size is due to the nature of this iconic design. It’s quite different than other bracelets and bangles.
Thankfully, Cartier has given a precise answer to this question, and we are here to make it even simpler.
How Should a Cartier Love Bracelet Fit on my Wrist?
Here are two simple steps to finding the right size Cartier Love bracelet for your (or your loved ones) wrist.
Step 1: Measure the wrist that will be wearing the Love bracelet.
Step 2: Decide on how you want the Love bracelet to fit – tight, regular, or loose.
Tight fit – If you want the Love bracelet to fit tight, then add 1 cm to the wrist measurement.
Regular fit (exact fit) – If you want the Love bracelet to fit regular (exact fit), then add 1.5 cm to the wrist measurement.
Loose fit – If you want the Love bracelet to fit looser, then add 2 cm to the wrist measurement.
And that’s it! By following this simple 2 step guide, you can’t go wrong.

Should I wear my Cartier Love Bracelet tight, regular or loose fitting?
This question comes down to personal preference. That being said, women are constantly posting on forums whether their bracelet is too tight or too loose. It’s clear that this is a super common thread among women who own Love bracelets.
So, if you are wondering, “should I get a snug or loose fit?” we have a few things for you to consider.
First, if you plan on losing weight, take that into consideration. The same goes for gaining weight. Of course, it’s hard to plan for this, but it’s something you can think back and see in your life what’s the common theme for your weight fluctuations, with the considerations for what your current weight is.
Another point to consider is – temperature. When it’s hot, your wrist expands, so a tight fit will be even tighter. When measuring your wrist, consider this.
Comfort is an extremely important factor in choosing a bracelet size. If you are easily uncomfortable with tight bracelets, you should probably get a regular or loose fit. The screws motifs will cause some discomfort when the bracelet is too tight. It can even cause slight discomfort with a regular fit.
Dings and scratches
When it comes to dings and scratches, a loose fit will take more of a beating. Luckily it’s gold so most scratches can be polished off.
It seems that in the world of celebrities the loose or regular fit is more popular than the snug fit.
A recent poll for which fit is best:
43.1% of women chose a tight fit
40.5% chose a looser fit (regular or loose)
6.1% stated they went for a loose fit, now I wish I had a tight fit
10.7% stated they went for a tight fit, now I wish I had a loose fit
Cartier’s Recommendation for How a Love Bangle Should Fit?
Cartier says it should be somewhat tight and as long as it fits over your wrist bone, it is good.
When in doubt – go regular (1.5cm above wrist size)
My Wrist Size is in the Middle (i.e. 15.5c, 16.5cm, 17.5cm, etc.)
But what if your wrist size is 15 cm – so adding 1.5 cm is 16.5….
When measuring your wrist, it’s recommended to round up if your wrist is in the middle of a measurement i.e. 15.5cm will be considered 16cm. Another way to look at it is, add 1.5cm to your wrist size and that’s the perfect fit for a Cartier Love Bracelet. It won’t be too loose or too tight, as 1cm up is tight fit and 2cm up is loose fit. So, if you are in the middle, always choose regular fit, which is 1.5cm added to your wrist size.
Cartier Love Bracelet 16 vs 17?
Let’s break this down by wrist size while considering both Cartier’s recommendation and the people’s popular choice, which is tight or regular. If your wrist size is 15cm, go for the 16cm Cartier Love bracelet. If your wrist is 15.cm, go for the 17cm Love bracelet. And, if your wrist is 16cm, go for the 17cm Love bracelet. It’s that simple.
What size Cartier Love Bracelet should I get?
Many women say you’ll never be happy when a Love bracelet is too loose. So, you should add either 1cm or 1.5cm to your wrist size to get the best Cartier Love Bracelet size. You truly can’t go wrong with either 1-1.5cm added to your wrist size. However, adding 2cm can be a mistake as it is too loose. That being said, someone women like it loose, so you need to also take your own preference into account.
.5cm can make a big difference. Let us give you an example…
If you are a 15.5cm wrist size and you want a loose fitting Cartier Love bracelet, you’d add 2cm to your wrist size, according to our sizing guide. This would leave you with a 17.5cm measurement. So, in this case, you’d be left with two options, an 18cm or 17cm Love bracelet. 18cm would be 2.5cm above your wrist size and 17cm is 1.5cm above your wrist size. Unfortunantely, you can’t get the 2cm above your wrist size that you wanted and you have to choose. In this case, always go for the 1.5cm above, as the extra .5cm above 2cm makes a big difference and it can really be too loose. On the other hand, with 1.5cm above your wrist size, you absolutely can’t go wrong.

Take the bracelet for a test run
A Cartier Love bracelet is an expensive purchase. If you have any concern about the size you are choosing, don’t be afraid to wear the bracelet size you are thinking to buy for a good 15-20 minutes when at the jewelry store (even longer if you have the patience). A good jeweler won’t mind as long as you stay in the store. This way you can see how it feels after some wear-time. Just like a car, you wouldn’t buy it without test driving it.
What happens if I get the wrong size? Can I exchange it for another size?
Unfortunately, you won’t likely be able to exchange your Love bracelet for another size if you have been wearing it for some time. You will have to sell the bracelet and start over.
Thankfully, at Raymond Lee Jewelers, we will allow you to exchange your Cartier Love bracelet size so long as the bracelet is in the same condition as it was when you bought it and you bought it within the last week – Rules apply.
If you have any questions about our exchange policy on Cartier Love bracelets, please contact us. We will answer you back promptly.
Can you resize Cartier love bracelet?
The design of the Cartier Love bracelet is very unique. It doesn’t allow for any alterations in size. So, you can not resize a Cartier Love Bracelet. The good news is the design also lends itself to some sizing advantages. Because it doesn’t slip over the hand, rather two pieces clasp together on your wrist, you won’t have to worry that you get a size that is too big where it will slip off your hand and one that is too tight to slip through your hand.
