Stop the presses. Your favorite (only?) Sk8r Gurl is engaged. Avril Lavigne, who was last tied to Brody Jenner of The Hills and Kardashian fame, kept her boyfriend on the down-low until he became her fiance. Her surprise Intended? Nickelback lead singer Chad Kroeger.

The two apparently grew close while Kroeger worked with Lavigne during songwriting for her much anticipated new album. The couple had been quietly dating since February, but with Kroeger’s proposal the two have decided to go public – in a big way.

The 14.01ct stunner from XIV Karats Beverly Hills looks like a pear shaped center stone with another pair of large diamond flanking it. The ring is gorgeous. Color us surprised that Avril Lavigne’s engagement ring is so traditional. We thought that she’d opt for an alternative gemstone like pink sapphire, or black diamonds, perhaps even a skull and crossbone pave ring? But apparently the singer is plent pleased with the ring and fiance alike stating “It is so beautiful. I love it.”
