January Birthstone Garnet
Happy Birthday, January babies! Your gorgeous birthstone is the perfect touch of warmth this winter (although, in South Florida, what’s winter?) This month, it’s all about garnet. Garnet, according to the American Gem Society (AGS):
“signifies eternal friendship and trust and is the perfect gift for a friend. Garnet, derived from the word granatum, means seed, and is called so because of the gemstone’s resemblance to a pomegranate seed. References to the gemstone dates back to 3100 B.C., when the Egyptians used garnets as inlays jewelry. Garnet is the name of a group of minerals that comes in a rainbow of colors, from the deep red of the pyrope garnet to the vibrant green of tsavorites. Today, the most important sources for garnet are Africa, Sri Lanka, and India.”
Garnet is one of our favorite semi-precious gems, and shines especially bright in our estate and vintage pieces. We prefer the deep, rich red version of this rock to other variations of the gemstone (though green is lovely too!) So today we’re showing off a few of our favorite garnet birthstone pieces.
First up, we’ve got this gents’ ring. It’s a simple, classic design in 14 karat yellow gold with a single, deep red round garnet set in 6 prongs.
This funky charm bracelet features a heart shaped red rhodolite garnet. This piece is by Temple St. Clair, whose collections are inspired by her classical Florentine background (she is actually partnered with the centuries-old Florentine jewellers’ guild.)
These beautiful 14 karat yellow gold and garnet dangle earrings are a more baroque style, with intricate details surrounding the oval garnet cabochons in the center (and small garnet studs up top.)
This beautiful vintage 18 karat yellow gold necklace features 14 Round Cabochon Garnets measuring 8.74mm, 1 Oval Cabochon Garnet measuring 11.72mm x 9.30mm, and 1 Oval Cabochon measuring 14.05mm x 11.52mm. It is also crafted with sterling silver and seed pearls measuring 1.22mm in diameter.
This checkerboard cut garnet solitaire ring is one of our favorite birthstone pieces. It’s a beautiful square shape that sits on a 18 karat white gold band with approximately .15ctw of round brilliant diamonds G/H in color and VS in clarity.
These gorgeous white gold and diamond garnet drop earrings are a fun, vintage-inspired set of perfection! They are 14 karat white gold set with Approximately 0.60ctw of Round Brilliant diamonds. Diamonds are G/H in color and VS in clarity. The garnet briolettes are approximately 0.32″ x 0.2″, and 5 crystal briolettes dangle from the earrings’ perimeters.
Finally, the spotlight shines on this stunning antique diamond cluster ring. The diamonds are approximately 0.28ctw Round Cut Diamonds, Diamonds are I/J, V/S. The 8 Round Cut Garnet accent stones create a flower of rich red set in 18 karat white gold.
