Chopard jewelers recently presented their 2013 Red Carpet Collection at the Cannes Film Festival held on the French Riviera. The high-end jewelry company has been a sponsor of the event for 15 years. This year, the company presented 66 unique and exquisite pieces in honor of the 66th annual event. And like the glamorous models, actresses and other celebrities wearing them, the jewels glowed with beauty.
This year’s Red Carpet Collection is centered around the theme of romance. The rings, earrings, necklaces and bracelets were created with the intention of illuminating the beauty of the women who wear them much like the glow of a woman deeply in love. Pastel-colored stones such as Paraiba tourmaline, kunzite and mauve spinel are accented with pave diamond settings and vivid tanzanites.
The designs pay homage to the love of nature with some of the pieces. This can be seen in a matching ring and necklace with 700 shimmering rubies that form a lovely deep pink poppy flower. The set also features 640 tsavorites and 168 verdant emeralds.
Probably the most stunning piece in the collection is the diamond collar necklace set. It features a pear-shaped diamond of 5 carats and 284 rose-cut diamonds for a total of nearly 183 carats. The large pear-shaped diamond dangles tantalizingly from a row of the rose cut diamonds. Rows of the rose-cut diamonds are attached to the collar necklace and cascade down.
This year, Chopard also redesigned the festival’s prestigious trophy. The Palme d’Or, or Palm of Gold trophy has been presented to the director of the best film award winner every year since 1954.
A master craftsman from Chopard has created the award in-house in the jewelry department since 1998. The newly designed trophy features a glistening golden palm swaying toward the sun with a solid emerald-cut crystal tightly beveled along the edges for background support.
