If you are into rare, large blue diamonds you might want to book a flight to London for April 24th. That’s the date for Bonham’s Fine Jewelry Sale, and a 5-carat blue diamond ring by Bulgari is expected to be the star of the show.
The Bulgari blue diamond is set in a vintage “Trombino” ring from 1965. The stunning stone is horizontally pave-set, surrounded by round brilliant cut diamonds and baguettes. The piece of jewelry is a knockout, and so is the expected price. The spring auction is anticipated bring $2 million for the ring. The anticipated price is figured in-part, by the fact that another blue diamond by Bulgari was sold at a 2011 auction for $1.9 million. Today, that ring would expect to sell for $3 million. That million dollar increase in just 18 months should give you an idea how desired and valuable these colored diamonds are.
The ring is scheduled to be available for viewing prior to the auction for three days. The auction is set to take place at Bonham’s location New Bond Street location in the center of Mayfair. Bonham’s is one of the world’s oldest auction houses of fine art, antiques and collectables. It traces its history to 1793.
