Oscar Jewelry: Predictions and Wishful Thinking
The awards show we’ve all been waiting for will finally arrive on Sunday! We’re ready to live tweet the red carpet, along with our fellow eagle-eyed celebrity jewelry spotters. A few predictions are practically a given: Ryan won’t ask who the jewelry designers are, there will be plenty of nude gowns, lots of mermaid silhouettes, and sweetheart necklines paired with statement earrings. Irene Neuwirth and Neil Lane reliably send droolworthy jewels down the red carpet. Entirely too little attention is paid to the luxury watches on the gents. But what are we hoping to see on the 2013 Oscars red carpet? Check out our wishful thinking projections below!
Slice Jewelry
We know they’ve been trending for a few years now, but slice pieces aren’t going anywhere and we’re just fine with that. We love the typical precious gem slice drop earrings, like the ruby and rose gold earrings pictured above, but we’d like to see the Mani Cam pick up a new kind of slice. This unique and colorful ring features purple, blue, pink and green sapphires with more than a carat and a half of accent diamonds. Now that’s a statement ring!
More Sapphires All Around
Slices aside, we’d like to see a great sapphire moment on the red carpet. Emeralds always steal the attention (and when most of them come from Lorraine Schwartz, it’s a natural occurrence). But Faith Hill’s sapphires at the Grammys reminded us just how much we love September’s birthstone. Show us some major carat weight on rings or earrings (we won’t push our luck by asking for a sapphire necklace, we’re happy to see any necklace at all).
Statement Necklaces
Speaking of necklaces, we’d always like to see more on the red carpet, but this year we actually have hope. With stars like Jessica Alba and Carrie Underwood wearing millions worth of carats to the Golden Globes and Grammys, respectively, all eyes are on the diamond necklace. Both starlets’ ice were the talk of the fashion police for days after the awards, we’re thinking plenty more actresses will jump on the bling bandwagon.
Thick Bracelets
We’re huge fans of the arm party. Really, we love to stack up Love bangles, Yurman cable bracelets and an Hermes bracelet or two along with fun friendship bracelets. But to us, the arm party skews casual. At the Academy Awards, we’d like to see a more tailored choice of wrist accessories. And we get the appeal of multiple bracelets – the more jewels the better for the on camera look – but this year we’re favorite wide bracelets and cuffs. The Y. Adkin yellow gold cuff above makes a huge, yet refined impact. We’re also keeping an eye out for broad antique and gemstone bracelets
Multiple Eternity Bands
Finally, our last wish is one that J. Lo inspired. When we saw her multiple eternity bands at the Grammys, we couldn’t believe we hadn’t thought of it first. Why stop at one finger full of diamonds when you can have more? And if we’re going to add multiple bands, lets see different diamond cuts too. Of course, we’ll still be tuning in to tweet all of the jewels we see – even if we don’t get our way!
