Bridal Market Spring 2013
First, Brad and Angelina get engaged, and now this – it’s a big week for weddings! One of the wedding world’s biggest events is currently underway this week in new York City. Bridal Fashion Week Spring 2013, also known as Bridal Market has all of the greatest wedding gown designers out in full force to debut jaw-dropping new collections. The gowns are gorgeous, as always, but a few wedding dress trends are emerging already (and it’s only Wedding Wednesday!) Here are our Top 5:
Texture
The dresses that went down the runway/aisle at the shows in the first half of the week were marked by their gorgeous use of texture. Designers played with chiffon ruffles, laser cut lace, layers of tulle and crafty plastics. Amsale and Maggie Sottero showed the collections with great detailing and clever use of fabrics, while Ines di Santo and Angel Sanchez simply wowed with amazing use of iridescent plastic sequins, palettes and appliqués.
Seeing Red
Ever the one to push bridal boundaries, Vera Wang eschewed all white again this year at bridal market 2013. She sent gown after gown down the aisle doused in shades of crimson, burgundy, and bright fire engine red. The looks were romantic and certainly show stopping; Oscar De La Renta’s incredible lipstick red chiffon concoction was another welcome dose of color. One thing’s for certain – we’ll be seeing plenty of red bridal gowns 2013 and beyond.
The Bridal Pantsuit
Speaking of thinking outside the box, Bridal Market has been awash thus far in reincarnations of the pantsuit. As one bridal industry insider Tweeted, the look is very Bianca Jagger. The pantsuit is sleek, elegant, and gets an update for the new decade with some crop top takes. We loved the suits we saw from THEIA, Oscar De La Renta and Carolina Herrera.
Illusions of Grandeur
The illusion neckline has been gorgeous on brides for the better part of a year, but the trend goes to the next level at bridal market’s showing of the 2013 collections; everything from boleros to sleeves to backs become an illusion in delicate lace and sheer fabrics. Reem Acra rules with the delicate sheer touches of appliqué, while Claire Pettibone’s decidedly Deco style is edgy and endearing. Christos keeps the look classic with barely there lace that we love.
Peplum Perfection
The last and most popular trend emerging from this week’s bridal market is also one of the year’s hottest trends overall – the peplum. This flattering silhouette adds volume and interest to a dress without taking anything away from a bride’s figure. We adore how simultaneously modern and classic this chic trend looks, and apparently plenty of designers are in agreement. Those who can’t get enough peplum include:
