Shawn Carter by Hublot is Expectedly Awesome
Rapper Jay-Z is a superstar, who’s earned 17 Grammy awards and has married one of the hottest singers around, can do whatever he wants. And he has. He’s branched out from creating his own music to produce other musicians, own a night club, become a certified sports agent and start his own line of fashion, Rocawear. It was only a matter of time before the artist, notably one of the most financially-savvy in the hip-hip world, would try his hand at something else. And what did the singer dream up this time? With the help of watchmaker Hublot, Jay-Z has produces two time pieces that are out of this world.
Jay-Z has long been a fan of Hublot and beautiful watches, so it seems a natural progressive for the mogul. The two pieces that have thus far been designed are the only two available in the Shawn Carter Collection. Shawn Carter, as you may know, is the rapper’s birth name, so it says a lot that the designs are named after him. Of course, his attention to detail aren’t missing here.
The first watch is one that’s made of 18-karat gold, so it’s sure to have a price tag that’s higher than most consumers can afford. The base is Hublot’s Classico Ultra-Thin, but the rapper has gone the distance when it comes to designing the watch. For example, the dial uses his logo, a Maltese cross, so it will stand out from other Hublot pieces. The cutout cross allows you to see the mechanism working beneath the face of the watch. The text “Shawn Carter by Hublot” appears on the dial, but there’s no Hublot logo on the watch at all. Finally, consumers will enjoy Hublot’s return to the King Gold alloy, which is brushed and somewhat vintage in appearance.
The other watch in the collection is as different as it could be in black ceramic. It’s modern and sleek and perfect for contemporary watch wearers. Like the gold version, the Maltese Cross is the focus of the watch, allowing you to view the innermost workings of the timepiece. The black ceramic is brushed, while silver and glossy black accents contrasts with the matte appearance for one sophisticated watch. The Shawn Carter name and cross logo appear on the dial of this watch, while Hublot engraves the unique number of these limited-edition watches on every timepiece.
The HUB1300 mechanism that both watches use is one that requires manual winding; however, that’s a small price to pay for such a large fashion statement. If you want to get your hands — or get the watch on your wrist! — either watch, you’ll be able to buy the limited collection at Barneys New York and some Hublot stores after November 20th. You’ll certainly look stylish when you step out while wearing either of these watches. Plus, one-fourth of the price goes to the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation, which is celebrating ten years of providing scholarships to under-privileged students this year.
The release date also makes a watch from Hublot’s Shawn Carter Collection perfect as a gift for the upcoming holiday season. You might even keep on for yourself!
