Kanye West & Jay Z’s Watch Name Drops on Watch the Throne
It’s no secret that Jay Z is a devoted luxury watch fan and collector (he even has is own Royal Oak Offshore L.E.) And Kanye West’s fashion obsession is well documented (his front row fashion week presence consistently makes headlines, not to mention his own foray into the fashion designing world). So when these two teamed up for last year’s epic Watch the Throne, no one was surprised to hear references to Lanvin and Margiela thrown around with references to Jay’s illicit former profession. And along with the luxe, luxe fashion name drops came a who’s who of the most exclusive watch brands. Below, a comprehensive list of the watch brands name dropped on Watch the Throne.
Franck Muller & Richard Mille
“Bueller had a Muller, but I switched it for a Mille” – Gotta Have It
Rolex
“Got the oversized Rollie let me show them how to do it” – Illest Mother…Alive
Hublot & Rolex
“New watch alert, Hublots / Or the big face Rollie / I got two of those” – Otis
Audemars Piguet & Rolex
“Ball so hard, got a broke clock / Rollies that don’t tick tock / Audemars that’s losing time / Hidden behind all these big rocks” – N****s in Paris
Obviously, Rolex is a favorite for Jay Z (three mentions and he does love those big face Rollies). And Kanye might still favor Hermes over horology, but it seems he’s into luxury watches too. And the attention paid to these specific brands (for none of which Jay or Ye “officially” ambassadors) makes us wonder: what do the rap superstars have against Jaeger & Patek?
