Ulysse Nardin Stranger Watch plays Frank Sinatra
Frank Sinatra always did things his way. “Old Blue Eyes” had the ladies swooning for decades and he and his original “Rat Pack” buddies made Las Vegas their personal playground. He was smooth, had swagger, and was cool before cool was cool. What other pop singer could carry the moniker “Chairman of the Board?”
He not only had a legendary music career, but appeared in blockbuster movies. Women wanted to be with him and men wanted to be like him. He was pretty much one of a kind.
Today, just a small piece of his legend continues in a new limited edition watch.
Swiss watchmaker Ulysse Nardin, who is building their own legend with some out of the box, quirky high end watches, pays homage to Sinatra by introducing a watch that also serves as a one tune music box. The tune is Frankie’s hauntingly beautiful “Strangers in the Night”. “The Stranger” as it is called by the company, is in a 18k rose gold case.

This is not some digital audio reproduction. Ulysse Nardin has actually engineered a musical box utilizing the watch’s movements to play the melody at set intervals, or even on demand. This is an actual music box melody played by moving pins in predetermined locations that “pluck” musical bars to create the tune. Instead of the traditional roller that one might recall for an old jewelry box, the pins are placed on a flat disc that can be viewed through the watch crystal. It is quite the piece of work.
There are only 99 of these engineering marvels available and the going price is $112,000 per.
