Top Ten Watches of BaselWorld 2014

Top Ten Watches of BaselWorld 2014

Baselworld is the most important event for jewelry and watches throughout the world, and throughout the year. Each March, manufacturers, retailers, fashion experts, media and the wealthy travel to Basel, Switzerland for the annual event.

If you are not familiar, Baselworld 2014 was impressive. It had over 150,000 visitors attend, representing people from over 100 countries. There were about 1,500 exhibitors from 40 countries, and over 4,000 journalists attended, representing media from 70 different countries.

Baselworld is where watchmakers and jewelry manufacturers show off their latest wares. Some of these companies only attend one show a year and it is Baselworld.

When you have the world’s most famous watch makers on hand, displaying their best timepieces, it is challenging to come up with a top 10. Undaunted, we have moved ahead and are pleased to present our list of Top Ten Watches of Baselworld 2014.

10. TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre CH 80

This is an automatic chronograph that boasts an amazing 80-hour power reserve. The brand was able to get all of this power and technology into a watch that is just 6.5mm thick, and inside of a beautiful sapphire crystal case. This is a watch that is functional, tasteful, and good looking.

9. Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Gravity

Slick and sleek this timepiece from Maurice Lacroix is extremely stylish while showing off some of its internal components. Like most of the watches on our list it does not come cheaply, sporting a $13,000 price tag.

8. Hublot Masterpiece MP-05 LaFerrari

If you are looking for something totally different, this Hublot Masterpiece may just be it. Rather than “What time is it?” you may be more often asked “What IS it?”

7. Girard-Perregaux 1966

In a time when men’s watches can get as big as moon pie, it is nice to see a tasteful throwback. A pink gold case teams perfectly with a blue metal face. The date window is even placed at the traditional 3 o’clock position.

6. Armin Strom One Week Skeleton

They call this a skeleton for good reason. You can see right through to just about every moving piece. The one week in the title refers to the seven day power supply it carries. Its gold case tops off this beauty. Its beauty comes at a price of just under $50,000.

5. The Arnold & Son Instrument CTB

CTB stands for Chronograph True Beat, and this men’s watch is a blend of contemporary styling with classic good looks. Its first ever dual second hands on the center stalk make it unique. One hand counts seconds moving smoothly while the other pauses after each “tic”. Sometimes it’s the little things.

4. Chopard Grand Prix de Monaco Historique Chrono

For 2014, black and yellow set the tone for this recurring watch in the Chopard line. It comes with a polished titanium case and is one of the more affordable options on our list at about $7,600.

3. Armin Strom Gravity Collection – Water

From a collection that also features Earth, Air, and Fire this particular watch makes our list for its understated style and slightly off-balance appearance.

2. HYT H1 Alumen Blue

This unique men’s watch uses its hand-wound movement that puts force onto two tiny bellows. The bellows propel two fluids around the watch to indicate time. The best part is you can watch it actually work.

1.Voutilainen 28 Hisui Watch Hands-On

Lacquer artist Kitamura Tatsuo puts his talents to use in this detailed watch with a mosaic dial that has been hand-assembled. More than just a timepiece, this is a work of art!
