Mercedes Benz Fashion Swim Week in Miami: Highlights of the Event
Mercedes Benz Fashion Swim Week was a huge event held in Miami from July 19-23. Many of the runway shows highlight the swimwear fashions for the Spring 2013 release. This major event paves the way for the direction of the fashion industry over the next few seasons.
A designer receiving positive praise is Luli Fama, parading models as a troupe of flapper girls and horn players. The show was inspired by the 1960s film, “La Dulce Vita,” merging an eclectic mix of that era of Italian fashion mixed with modern day Miami flair. “Black-and-white images of Marcello Mastroianni and Anita Ekberg were projected onto the wall, coupled with modern music by the likes of Pitbull.”
The show represented bold prints, bright florals and the all-too-standard Miami bling. Many vintage aspects were incorporated, like high-waisted bottoms and pin-up girl demi-cups, while introducing the models in super-girly headbands or with flowers in their hair.
The Caffe designer Paula Saavedra from Columbia brought a sexy, glamorous line to the mix—featuring a runway show offering billowing caftans in jewel tones and stunning tropical prints. “While the line’s signature figure-hugging bikinis were out in full force, it was really the cover-ups that stole the show.”
