Watches Every Man Should Own: The Icon
There are certain wardrobe staples that every stylish man needs to own: a classic blue blazer, the perfect dress shoe, a well-tailored suit – these are all givens. But as we’ve stated many a time before, no ensemble is truly complete without the finishing touches that elevate an outfit to refinement. More often than not, the final piece of the sartorial puzzle is a well chosen wrist watch.
A timepiece says a lot about its wearer, and we’re here to make sure you’re making the right statement. Join us in our series outlining the best choices for a fully rounded watch wardrobe with the timepieces that every man should own.
This week’s watch is a staple in any watch collection: the Cartier Roadster. The Roadster, who’s distinct shape makes it instantly recognizable, was inspired by the speed, power and precision of automobiles (hence the name).
Introduced in 2001, the Roadster’s every component is an ode to cars: radiator crown, hub-cap inspired curves, and vintage-style inscription on the case back make the Roadster a car-fanatic’s watch.
We like this stainless steel Cartier Roadster black dial. It’s reminiscent of an old school speedometer. Graphic, large numbers and contrast markers all pop against a race-track motif on the bezel.
The 32mm case is substantial, but not imposing, so you can wear it casually with a button down, shorts and loafers without venturing into ostentatious turf.
