RJ Enriquez’s 1995 Spoon NSX from the Diamonds & Donuts Film

RJ Enriquez’s 1995 Spoon NSX from the Diamonds & Donuts Film

Acura NSX Spoon

Last week we released our long-awaited Diamonds and Donuts car film, and in it, we featured a few special fully-built imports that we had scouted months prior to filming. One of those exquisitely modded import cars was a 1995 Acura Spoon NSX, owned by RJ Enriquez. The Diamonds and Donuts film displays the beauty of this NSX, both in appearance and sound. In our film, you can see its road prowess as it cruises the streets of South Florida…But one thing our film doesn’t get into is the nitty-gritty of what it took to build this car. So, we figure it’s only right that we share its story with you all. If you are a JDM car nut, you are going to enjoy the story and background of this crazy Acura NSX build…

Acura NSX Spoon

Owner RJ Enriquez and his NSX Story

This car is owned by RJ Enriquez (@bzyrice), who is from Orlando.

About 15 years ago, RJ helped out a friend by letting him live with him while he got back on his feet. Years later, his friend called him out of the blue saying he owed him. He knew RJ was a Honda and Acura guy and that he always wanted an NSX, so he sold RJ his NSX for super cheap.

About the NSX: It is a 2-seater, mid-engined sports car by Honda. It was manufactured in Japan from 1990 to 2005. The first generation was marketed in North America as a Honda NSX and Asia as the Acura NSX.

Once RJ bought the imported Acura NSX, he got to work modifying it to what it is today. It took him 6 years to get it to where it is now, and he couldn’t be more satisfied with how his build turned out…

Honda NSX Spoon

Spoon NSX Race Car x NSX R-GT

This Acura NSX’s build is based on 2 cars, the Spoon NSX Race Car and the NSX R-GT. This means his NSX is full of JDM parts, like SPOON. It has been under the knife many times.

Spoon

Spoon is one of the biggest Honda Tuner Companies in Japan. The company is famous around the world for providing total race car technology.

What is a Spoon NSX race car?

Put simply, it is a tuned version of the NSX. RJ’s Spoon NSX has all kinds of Spoon parts, hence its name “NSX Spoon”.

The original Spoon NSX, which this car is based on, was a tuned up version of the rarest NSX to ever exist – the NSX R-GT. The famous Spoon NSX R-GT competed in the Macau Road Sports Challenge – a tuned car competition held on a public road course called Guia Circuit.

To be the Spoon engine that it is, it requires a vast tune-up. You will find out all about the Spoon tune-up on RJ’s NSX further below.

NSX R-GT

The NSX R-GT is an extremely rare car. It was limited to a production run of only five cars. It was created by Honda to solely be in accordance with the Super GT production-based race car homologation requirements. This means it was made specifically for the Japanese Grand Touring Championship (JGTC). And the only reason they made 5 of them was that JGTC rules require that for any car that enters the race, there must be a production of at least 5 cars of the same version.

The NSX R-GT is an aggressive, middle engine, real wheel drive high performance coupe. It has a V6 24V engine with a displacement of 3.2L, power of 280 PS (276 bhp), torque of 224 lb-ft, and 6 speed manual transmission. It was capable of smoking cars with far high bhp, and it could hit a real lap time of 1:35:1.

So, RJ took inspiration for the two famous NSX race cars, creating a version of his own based on both cars. This makes RJ’s build 100% unique, and powerful AF.

RJ Enriquez and his family

RJ Enriquez’s wife and kids

RJ told us he couldn’t be more thankful for his wife and kids for being so supportive of his avocation for cars, and more specifically, his Acura NSX. So a special thanks goes out to them on behalf of RJ.

Now, let’s have a look at the specifics mods for RJ’s Acura NSX Spoon.

RJ Enriquez’s Fully Built Acura NSX Spoon – Parts and Modifications

When we told you it took 6 years for RJ to get his car to where it is today, you are about to see why. He has a plethora of exceptional mods that we must discuss, as to attempt to do his car the justice it deserves.

Fully Build Acura NSX

Exterior

Starting with the exterior, RJ’s Acura NSX has a Nouvelle Blue Pearl color change, which was taken from the 2017 NSX. It’s a powerful and vibrant blue with a metallic shine to it. The color stands out, catching the eyes in an instant, thus giving his NSX the attention it deserves.

RJ did a 2002+ NSX headlight conversion with downforce conversion brackets and a wiring harness. Essentially, the conversion includes high-intensity discharge which is found in new models, allowing for excellent night time vision. To do this headlight conversion, it requires a modified hood and bumper to fit the shape of the new headlights.

From the back, he rigged his car with ARC LumiR 2.0 LED Taillights and an F1 Strobe LED Brake Light.

It also has a 4300 HID Kit. This upgrade makes his NSX stand out even more, allowing people to immediately be aware of its presence.

As for the body, it has a Downforce JDM Sport Fenders, so it is 8mm wider. The slight increase in width makes for aggressive wheel clearance. It is very beneficial for the upgraded brakes and wheels he put on his NSX.

What’s more, he has a Route KS NSX-R GT and Spoon front and rear bumper. It transforms the look of the side profile while also giving the car a lighter weight and more durability.

Then, he has Route KS Side Spats Molded to Side Skirts and Pride 02+ Side Skirts with Door Caps, which not only give his NSX a dope appearance, but they also reduce aerodynamic drag caused by air turbulence.

Coming strong with the avant-garde goods…RJ’s NSX is not lacking carbon fiber parts…

RJ Enriquez’s NSZX has Pride OEM Carbon Side Vents, Pride NSXR GT Carbon Side Vents, Pride Modulo Carbon Spoiler with LED, and Pride 02+ Carbon Trunk Spoiler. PRIDE baby.

What’s more, it features a striking Procar Type R carbon Hood and unmissable Voltex Type 4 Carbon GT Wing (1700mm) with 245mm brackets and an optional Trunk Lid Spoiler. This adds both a kickass look and it reduces sup-lift at the tail of his car. Everything about his NSX is thoroughly methodical, for improving both performance and appearance.

Finally, to top it all off, he has an NSX Type-S Badging emblem and S2000 OEM Side Markers with Harness. Even the smallest details matter for JDM aficionados like RJ.

Engine

Now, let’s get a better understanding of what took place under the hood…

The carbon fiber mods continue with an Aero Spec Racing Custom Carbon Kevlar Intake Manifold Plate, a SDUFF Carbon Intake Manifold in Spoon Yellow, and a Cantrell Concepts Engine Cover custom Carbon Kevlar.

All state-of-the-art stuff here…

The advanced parts continue with his Titanium Intake Manifold Plate and Titanium Throttle Body Cover by Chasing Js.

Next, RJ Enriquez put in a Dali Racing Polished Fuel Injector Covers and Polished Targa 3 Point Strut Bar. The 3-point strut bar prevents the car’s chassis from flexing during cornering, making it more rigid, which results in better handling.

What’s more? Plenty!

He’s got a Downforce Carbon Vent Air Intake, which improves air flow to the engine…

An SCW Performance Throttle Body Cover, SCW GT Radiator Cooling Panel, and SCW GT Radiator Bracket.

Spoon Yellow Valve Covers to prevent oil leaking in style.

Finally, he has parts from Masterpiece Automotive Titanium Hardware, again, it’s an innovative grind for this JDM mind.

1995 NSX mods

Exhaust

RJ equipped his NSX with a Spoon Exhaust Modified by Billet Design and Pride Straight Pipes. End result? This car sounds magnificent.

The exhaust system also uses OBX headers which manipulate air in an incredible way AND Injen Intake for max horsepower from a tuned cold air intake system.

Brakes & Suspension

More Spoon, of course. RJ’s NSX has Spoon Sports Coilovers (NA1-R-92A-TEIN ddh15-54731), for the best shock absorbing and coil spring integration in the game. AND, Spoon Monoblock Aluminum Front Calipers.

Moreover, he issued Cedar Ridge Front Compliance Clamps, Stoptech Slotted Front Rotors, and Goodrich Steel Braided Brake Lines.

Wheel’s & Tires

As for the wheels and tires, he uses Mugen MF-10 Custom Cut and Upsized 17×8.0 +47 [Front] 18×10 +38 [Rear] and Yokohama Advan Neova AD08R 215/40/17 [Front] 265/35/17 [Rear].

Interior

The surfeit of mods doesn’t end there. The interior of RJ’s NSX is chock-full of mods…

The car underwent an OEM Black Interior Conversion, using a red and black theme.

The seats are Mugen MS-Z Seats with Bride FO Type Seat Rails. He’s got NSX Zanardi Black and Red Floor Mats, and a TFENT Red Carpet. Red Alacantra Accents (Door Inserts & Glove Box).

More carbon? Yes, please…We are talking Carbon A Pillars, Carbon B Pillars, Carbon Targa Headline and Carbon Fiber/Suede OMP Steering Wheel, all from SDUFF.

Then there’s a Carbon Door Garnish and  Carbon Cowl, both by Pride.

It doesn’t spot there though.

He’s equipped the inside with a NSX-R Mesh Shift Boot with Carbon Shift Plate (and NSX-R Horn and Trim Ring) and a Carbon Fiber Arm Rest.

Steering

He fit his NSX with a Short Hub and GTC Hybrid Pop-Up Steering System by Work Bell.

Furthermore, his NSX has Mazterpiece Automotive Titanium Steering Wheel Hardware. A Tommy Kaira Hebe Bebe Knob with modified OEM NSX Shift Stalk. AND, a FEEL’s 5 Speed Shift Pattern Plate.

Almost done here…

RJ Enriquez put in a Takata Race 4 Point Snap Harness in Green, Dali Racing Harness Bar with Floor Bar and a Chasing J’s Titanium gauge cluster.

Finally, it wouldn’t be right to not have a touch of Spoon on the interior. So, he’s got the dope Spoon Rear View Mirror, always reminding him what his car was inspired by. Right there at eye level.

All in all, you can see why this is a super impressive build. So much time and passion went into every element of this car. From big decisions to sourcing to installing, this was a MAJOR project.
