Richard Mille Teams up with Trusted.com to Fight Replica Watches
It is a bit of a Catch-22 for luxury watch companies. They of course, want to build their brands, create demand, and enjoy great popularity. The issue for these watchmakers is that successful branding, demand and popularity also creates a problem. That problem is an abundance of replica watches. These fakes not only hurt the watch company who built a brand based on quality, but will ultimately come back to bite the unsuspecting customer.
Of course counterfeit watches have been an issue for years, and in particular for Richard Mille creations, who have been enjoying some great popularity recently. Well the folks at Richard Mille are stepping forward and doing something about it. Mille is teaming up with Trusted.com to help create an “e-title”. Like with your vehicle, the e-title would detail when the watch was manufactured, when it was sold, and who owned it. Like with fine art, the e-title would serve as sort of a provenance for the piece, assuring future owners of its history. It would certainly help verify that it is genuine. This would serve as a particularly good way to assure watches that were previously owned were real.
This move by Richard Mille shows the extent that counterfeit watches are a problem. Watches that are sold on the internet and through anonymous online ads are too often found to be fakes. It also stresses the importance of working with a jeweler or reseller that you can trust. They should be able to demonstrate what makes the particular item they are selling genuine, and be willing to back up their sale.
Pre-owned luxury watches can be a great value and even an good investment if the products purchased are genuine. Make sure you work with a company with a solid reputation and is one you can trust.
