Best Jewelry at the 2014 Golden Globes
You guys, last night’s Golden Globes have us excited for this awards season. First of all, the caliber of stars nominated is insane – Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, along with Jennifer Lawrence, Lupita N’Yongo and Amy Adams. And those are just the ladies – Cooper, Fassbender, Clooney, Pitt, LEO,they’ve all got a horse in the race and therefore we should be seeing a lot of them. Second of all, last night proved that the age of beige has finally ended. Everyone was rocking color on the red carpet (even Usher got in on the game with a purple tux). The ladies who did stick to black did so with structural or embellished elements, but there was more color than ever on the red carpet. Even better, the necklace, that we saw slowly appearing more and more frequently last awards season, is back in a big way! Gone are the days of a red carpet dominated by studzZz and we now live in a world where Sofia Vergara wasn’t the only one who we can get excited about (although obviously we did). We are in for a fun and sparkly eight weeks of award shows if the 2014 Golden Globes were any indication. Here’s why.
Julianna Margulies Goes for Baroque
In totally regal Andrew Gn, Julianna looked like a queen. She mimicked the gown’s rich gold embroidery with black and gold jewelry by – who else? Van Cleef & Arpels. No one does onyx and yellow gold like VCA, and her sweet Alhambra pinkie ring just got the party started – she paired it with a beautiful vintage gold rope bracelet circa 1950. Her earrings are a stand out of the night. They’re also VCA, and therefore most likely onyx, but we’re awaiting more details on them! They look like 18kt and diamond vintage, but whether they’re a one off from haute or if they were a vintage collection, we’re still searching to find out! Either way, excellent jewelry all around on Margulies.
Jessica Chastain Brings Back the Backlace
At first glance, it appeared Jessica Chastain was wearing another classic diamond piece from Harry Winston, who she usually borrows. Oh no no. Not only did Chastain recover from last year’s seafoam green dress with a structured and pretty Givenchy number, she knocked it out of the park with her amazing hair and this necklace. It is a 1930’s platinum and diamond double row necklace by Bvlgari’s Heritage collection. The back detail is stunning and the perfect twist on last year’s backlace trend!
Naomi Watts’ Golden Moment
Naomi was one of many starlets also on the yellow gold kick this red carpet enjoyed. She also wore Bvlgari, but took it more contemporary with a bold goldmicropave necklace. Her Serpenti watch was vintage, and played nicely with her python clutch and champagne Tom Ford gown.
Jennifer Lawrence Dropping Diamonds Left and Right
Let’s not discuss Jennifer Lawrence’s dress, because she’s practically perfect in every way, right? Right. Let’s focus on her awesome Neil Lane jewelry. She wore onyx, diamond and jade Art Deco looking drop earrings that look so familiar. Are we crazy? Has someone worn these in recent years? Or something similar? We need to check our archives. Anyway, she also wore some fantastic bracelets in an arm party. More Deco, more diamonds and more onyx – so much in fact that she nearly lost one on the red carpet chatting with Ryan Seacrest. And not to leave any limb or appendage undone, J. Law added a white diamond and platinum ring to one hand and a gorgeous emerald cabochon with diamonds to her other hand, bringing the total to $2.5 million worth of jewels!
Sofia Vergara…Well, You Know.
Sofia can always be counted on for three things at Awards shows. She’s going to wear Oscar, Zac or Vera, and she’s going to wear the best, biggest, sparkliest thing Lorraine Schwartz pulls out of the vault. Last night it was a black Zac Posen (that actually wasn’t mermaid so that’s a surprise!) Along with an insane turquoise necklace. Each leaf and flower is a complementary but varying tone of turquoise with no veining – just blue as far as the eye can see. Stunning!
**Updated**
Per Lorraine Schwartz’s Facebook Page, Sofia is wearing $3 million worth of goodies including this “carved turquoise floral necklace, a 12 carat sideways set oval diamond ring set in platinum, a double marquee platinum pinky ring and marquee diamond drop earrings.”
