Lost & Found: Rafael Nadal’s Stolen Richard Mille
Rafael Nadal Richard Mille
Rafael Nadal may have just won the French Open, but it’s what he lost that day that’s stealing headlines: his $370,000 Richard Mille RM027 tourbillon.
Nadal’s victory over Novac Djokovic was sweet, we’re sure, but tainted by the loss of yet another Richard Mille. Luckily for Nadal, it was recovered, or Richard Mille may have had to reconsider its lending policy with the 7 time French Open champion.
Police suspected that the theft was an “inside job” given that Nadal’s suite showed no signs of forced entry, and their suspicions proved correct when they arrested a hotel employee who had used his key card to enter the suite where Nadal and his family were staying.
The hotel bartender who confessed was arrested Tuesday evening. After the watch was recovered near train tracks in the Parisian suburb of Evry, Nadal made it clear he has no hard feelings for the hotel itself, stating:
“I cannot say anything wrong about the hotel. They were great for me every time I was there, for the last, I think, eight years. I’ll be back in the hotel next year.”
And hopefully, next time he’ll keep his half million dollar timepiece in the room’s safe!
