The most interesting gemstone to come out of the ocean has got to be pearls. A Japanese man by the name of Mikimoto Kokichi had a fascination with pearls at a young age since he used to watch pearl divers pull up pearls off the shore of his home town. Mikimoto started his pearl oyster farm in 1888 with his wife. Though there was a struggle with business Mikimoto did not give up and he started to create hemispherical cultured pearls and showed them off in Norway in 1897 and began his business of exporting pearls. With success over the years and also Japan’s technology Mikimoto was able to expand his pearl industry and was producing about 10 million cultured pearls annually. This particular Mikimoto pearl necklace (like any other Mikimoto pearl necklace) has the highest quality of pearls. What makes this Mikimoto necklace differ from all the other ones is the clasp. Many of the Mikimoto pearl necklaces have yellow gold clasps but as for this one it is platinum!
