Our 5 Favorite Moments of Fashion Week
Another New York Fashion Week has come and gone, and all that remains is… collection upon fabulous collection to look forward to for Spring 2013. So not that bad of a break. But, the biggest week in the fashion world always holds tons of excitement, so we’re sad to see it go (although we won’t miss the frantic race to keep up with each day’s new shows). New York Fashion Week 2012 had its fair share of “wow” moments, a dose of drama, and plenty of great collections – these are our top 5.
Diane von Furstenberg goes High Tech with Google Glass
Earlier this year when Google unveiled Glass at their annual conference, we were excited and confused. Confused as to how we’d benefit from Googlevision while we walked, but excited because…Google vision while we walk! And once we saw the cool capabilities of glass (Android users can actually see a feature by clicking here, double tapping and exploring our showroom POV style), we were doubly excited. So when Diane sent her models down the runway wearing the high tech specs, we has a bit of a “The Future is here!” moment. Very cool, very fun, and very modern – just like the DVF Spring 2013 line.
Zac Posen Keeps it Classic
Zac Posen’s Spring 2013 show overflowed with timeless, glamorous clothing. His standbys like structured bodices, 40’s length tailored skirts, ultra feminine fabrics and sexy silhouettes ruled the runway. Posen also chose a variety of colors and patterns (plus insanely luxe jewels) that kept the extremely posh crowd oohing and ahhing from Naomi Campbell’s opener to Coco Rocha’s closer (she decided to walk after all). And nearly every other supermodel you can imagine walked in this show too! Of course, the drama didn’t stay on the runway, but more on that later…
Harper Beckham’s Runway Expertise
Britain’s answer to Blue Ivy Carter certainly has DNA on her side, with a fashion designer-cum-Spice-Girl mom and a dad who’s, well, David Beckham, but no one saw her modeling debut arriving so early! Baby Beckham got to test out mom’s runway before any of the hottest models did, creating an adorable moment. After she ensured runway quality control, Harper sat front row to check out mom’s collection.
Jenny Packham Can Do No Wrong
One of our favorite wedding dress designers had another fantastic showing this fashion week. So many fabulous collections stood out as our favorites (Oscar de La Renta, J. Crew, the aforementioned DVF and, Naeem Kahn Ralph Lauren to name a few) but Jenny Packham takes the cake. Jenny’s signature sparkle gets us every time, and her Spring 2013 line had plenty. The beading, sequins and crystal embellishments shone in homage to Las Vegas nightlife, the inspiration for the collection. The muted pastel palette kept things from getting gaudy, and glamorous hair and makeup sealed the deal.
Kimye (Nearly) Eclipse the Fashion at Marchesa
Probably the most made-for-each-other couple of all time was present and accounted for at Fashion Week. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West sat front row at Marchesa (between Tyra Banks and Stacey Keibler) to take in some fashion. As soon as Mr. West was in the building, plus 1, the Twittersphere lit up. Our favorite fashion sources all said that mayhem broke out when the couple entered, but once the show started, all eyes were on the clothes.
