Diamonds and Donuts “Ford GT Edition” Car Show Recap – April 28, 2019
Here is a recap of the April 28th, 2019 Diamonds and Donuts Car Show “Ford GT Edition” in Boca Raton.
Our latest Diamonds & Donuts event was supremely successful! We saw tons of incredible cars and people, and we couldn’t be more proud as this April marks our 2 year anniversary of the Diamonds and Donuts Car Show!
DIAMONDS AND DONUTS “FORD GT EDITION”
To honor our love for American vehicles, we filled our front lot parking with Ford GT’s. We had over 20 Ford GT’s!
We had all types of Ford GT’s, from older models to the newest ones. Some of the rarest Ford GT’s to bless the planet were in attendance.
Big thanks to Brian Stormer!
We couldn’t do this without the help of Brian Stormer (@stormy_56) who owns a 2017 Ford GT and was responsible for gathering all of the new Ford GT’s that came to the show.
2019 Ford GT Carbon Edition
We unveiled the first 2019 Ford GT Carbon Fiber Edition, which is owned by our very good friend Larry Coe.
We exhibited Larry’s Carbon Edition Ford GT early noon and it definitely drew a big crowd who were all very eager to see it.
The sophisticated use of carbon makes the Carbon Edition GT is an absolute stunner. The carbon-fiber dual stripes that run the length of the car along with the accent colors, allows this incredible sports car to stand out even among the most incredible sports cars the world has to offer.
It has all the exposed carbon you could ask for given it’s coined the “Carbon Edition” – carbon fiber stripes pillars, side skirts, read diffuser, and, last but not least, carbon-fiber wheels. It doesn’t lack in the titanium department either. Contributing to its weight loss is a titanium exhaust.
As far as we are concerned, the Ford GT Carbon Fiber Edition’s use of carbon is more about the looks than lowering weight. Between the carbon wheels, plastic engine cover, removal of the doorbins and cupholders, and use of titanium, it saves 40lb off the total weight of the vehicle. Not a whole lot. However, it’s not as if the standard Ford GT is heavy.
Even though 40LBs off the total weight of the GT isn’t that much, it still gives it a more nimble handle on the road.
Beyond all of that, it’s your usual, beloved Ford GT – a race-derived supercar with a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 shooting 647bhp. Come to think of it, there’s nothing usual about a Ford GT.
GT on GT on GT
Larry also happens to own 3 other older Ford GT’s, so he blessed us with an assortment of GTs. I mean, who can even manage that? Larry can, that’s who.
Here is Larry’s collection of Ford GT’s.
The black one is tuned by Hennessey Performance and has 1000HP!
Hennessey Performance
The sound on the Hennessey GT1000 is beyond great. It was like a purring lion as it found its way to its VIP parking spot at Diamonds and Donuts. Take this pussy cat up on the highway and you’ll be hearing racecar-talk at it’s finest.
However, being in the driver or passenger seat it’s probably kind of hard to think about the sound, considering the Hennessy tune up’s top speed will make your eyes water and your skin pull back.
This is engineering at its finest.
With anything great, it’s going to cost you. The basic Hennessey package costs 55 grand, and if you’d like an upgrade on the wheels, tires, and brakes, toss in another $25k.
Brooks Weisblat (@dragtimescom) also came out with his Ford GT
This is the first time ever that we’ve had 3 Ford GT Heritages parked together!
GT Heritages
As if the Carbon Fiber Edition wasn’t enough, we had not one, not two, but THREE 2019 Ford GT Heritage Editions in our presence. This was a spectacular sight to see.
Is there anything better than seeing a supercar like Ford GT receive special edition treatment? We don’t think so. The cars are beautiful, and so is the fact that Ford pays homage to their heritage each year.
The Ford GT ‘Gulf’ Heritage Edition (seen on the left above) is a tribute to the illustrious GT40 Gulf Livery which won the Le Mans in 1968 and 1969. This is one of the most talked about sports cars in history.
GT Heritage Edition hits top speeds of 216mph and 0-60mph in 3.0 seconds with its V6 3.5L engine booting 647hp.
Ford’s supercar appeal is next level. Next level to the point where “off the charts” is an understatement.
If you want to get your mitts on a Ford GT Heritage Edition…Well, it’s probably not going to happen. It’s difficult enough to get a new standard Ford GT, this uber-exclusive elite model is sold out for the coming years. Ford only makes a select number. When it’s all said in done, at this point in the game, it’s next to impossible to get one anytime soon. Moreover, money needs to be no object, a GT Heritage recently just sold for 2 million dollars. So, ya…
The ‘Gulf’ Heritage belongs to Ernie Santana (@maxemus), Tim Cantwell owns the red Heritage and Billy Johnson, professional Ford race car driver (@billyjracing) owns the black Heritage.
Billy Johnson – Pro American Race Car Driver
Billy Johnson has a super impressive “resume”. His racing credentials far exceed the word ‘extensive’.
He is an American pro race car driver who competes in World Endurance Championship for Ford Chip Ganassi Racing in the #66 Ford GT. He also was in the 2016 IMSA Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge GS champion for Ford/Multimatic Motorsports in the #15 Ford Performance Shelby GT350R-C with co-driver Scott Maxwell.
Billy has an impressive 23 wins under his belt, making him the most winning driver in CTSCC history.
To quickly go over some more of his remarkable work and talents:
- He has multiple GT class podium finishes for Turner Motorsports.
- He’s a test driver for Multimatic and Ford Performance.
- He helped to produce the LeMans winning Ford GT racecar, Championship winning Shelby GT350R-C, Mustang GT4, FP350S racecars, along with street cars like the GT350, GT350R, and Ford GT.
- He’s been called upon for a plethora of endurance races.
- He is a road-course specialist in the NASCAR Xfinity series.
…and the list goes on. You can check him out on his personal website via his Instagram.
The man is majestic behind the wheel…and behind the scenes. It was truly an honor to have him at Diamonds and Donuts this past week.
Brian Stormer’s (@stormy_56) Ford GT
A huge thanks to Brian Stormer, as if it wasn’t for him, we wouldn’t have amassed such a rare collection of Ford GTs.
The Ford GT force is strong with this one.
@stormy_56 himself blessed us with a new Ford GT Twin Turbo V6. His Ford GT Twin Turbo has a carbon fiber construction, adjustable suspension, and active-aero elements. Only 1,000 of these have been made so this was another rare GT for the Diamond and Donuts attendees to gawk over. Such an honor to have this beauty come on a regular basis. If you didn’t make it to this month’s Diamond and Donuts, be sure to catch us in the future and you may be lucky enough to see his Storm Trooper in action.
Even though we themed this show as the Ford GT Edition we had a huge presence of all kinds of cars.
The biggest group of cars that showed up was the @gtrsquadofsfl, followed by @miami_benz_club
Corvette ZR1
This show also brought out quite a few Corvette ZR1’s
The King of Corvette, the ZR1, was in attendance. Not just one though, we had a few, just to show the power of South Florida’s car game. ZR1 is the car that brought Corvette back to the American supercar throne. It’s ultra luxurious and overwhelming in performance. It’s the fastest, most powerful, most explosive, advanced performance vehicle in Corvette history. Furthermore, this car just looks pure badass – Aesthetics at its finest.
Between the Ford GTs and the ZR1s, American car performance was in full force.
We also had quite a few exotics show up
@50ccking brought out his Lamborghini Huracan
The Huracan supports a 5.2L naturally aspirated Audi and Lambo V10 engine taken from the Gallardo, which has been tuned to produce a max power output of whopping 602hp. The car offers incredible balance and high performance using a mid-engine. Its engine has both direct fuel injection and multi-point fuel injection. Combining both mechanisms like this was a first in V10 engine history. Moreover, to ensure increased efficiency, the Huracan’s engine includes an effective start-stop system.
The Huracan is a classic in the Lambo line up. Respected, cherished, and beloved car enthusiast around the world.
Another handsome Huracan on the scene thanks to @sofiyarothschild
We had two Lamborghini Aventadors on the D&D lot.
@954_mr_xi with his Lamborghini Aventador
Sean Flood (@954_mr_xi) is a long time supporter of Diamonds and Donuts. He is also one of the biggest contributors to the causes we raise awareness and contributions for each month. We are super grateful for him…and his Aventador named Bella. So is the community.
Bella has an in-house Lambo V12 engine that generates 690 bhp and hits 0-60mph in 2.9 seconds. The base price on a car like this is just a mere US$393,695 😉 Cha-Ching!
@topshelfauto also brought out his Orange Lamborghini Aventador.
@thefuellord brought out his Dodge Viper ACR
The Dodge Viper ACR (American Club Racing) is as crazy as it appears. One peep at its enormous rear wing will give you a definitive proof. The power on this bad boy is due to an 8.4-liter V10 with 645 hp and 600 lb-ft of torque. With power being shot to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual.
Start this vehicle up and here its engines ROAR. It’ll punch you in the face! This is a rare beast. It was such a pleasure to take this one in.
Huge thanks to all of the other clubs and individuals who attended.
