Cushion Cut diamonds are the most popular fancy shape diamond on the market. The modern cushion cut is similar to a brilliant cut, the cushion is more similar to a round’s facet pattern, and plays with light in the same way; while it’s less “brilliant” it does have more fire, making it more colorful when flashing. It also hides color well, so you can buy a lower grade. The cushion shape can be cut in a variety of ways, depending on personal taste, and the shape varies widely along the spectrum of square to rectangular.
A cushion cut’s soft corners add femininity to the shape, while the crisp facets give it major bling factor. Cushion cuts work well with tons of setting styles, including three stone engagement rings with trapezoid, trillion, or half moon shaped diamonds on either side. It also looks wonderful paired with colored gemstone side stones too. Cushion cut solitaire engagement rings are a breathtaking way to shake up the traditional round, whether their ratios are 1:1 or the longer 2:1. On a pave diamond band this look is stunning. Another one of our favorite cushion looks is the cushion halo – whether it’s a cushion shaped halo on a cushion cut diamond, or a round diamond in a cushion shaped halo. This shape isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, with brides on the hunt for cushion shaped engagement rings every day in our showroom. We’ve put together a few of our favorite cushion looks.
Verragio Classic Twisted Shank Halo
Another double halo by Uneek, this one with an inner ring of rose gold and pink diamonds
This is a great example of an Antique Cushion Cut Engagement Ring. We set the old diamond in a modern diamond pave halo to keep it updated and fresh.
A stunning Uneek cushion cut with a large fancy yellow center stone and super sized diamond halo. The thin micropave split shank sides sweep around and behind the curve of the finger.
This is another Uneek beauty – can you tell they specialize in fun fancy colored creations? We love the pink cushion cut diamond set in a rose gold bezel with a halo around the center stone AND halos around the trapezoid shaped side diamonds.
Finally, we have a beautiful rose cut cushion shape, set in platinum with two large trillions on either side. The trillions add some sharpness to the beautiful soft lines of the center stone creating a gorgeous contrast.
