It's the Great Pumpkin Diamond!

Readers, you can bet our favorite types of pumpkins are blinged out. We're even considering (not) carving our Jack-o-Lanterns a little like this.

But if given the choice, we'll choose a pumpkinized diamond over a diamondized pumpkin any day. And today, we've got our eye on the famous Pumpkin Diamond.

The "Pumpkin Diamond" is a 5.54 carat natural vivid fancy orange diamond. It was quickly snapped up by Harry Winston at a 1997 Sotheby's Auction the day before Halloween, thus earning its gourdy moniker. Fancy orange diamonds are among the rarest of the fancy hues, and the pumpkin diamond's large size - the largest known fancy orange, in fact - combined with its gorgeous color, and fabulous cut and clarity, make it the most expensive fancy orange.

Bought by Ronald Winston for $1.3 million, the stone is now valued at over $3 million, making it one of the most expensive diamonds in the world (not just in the fancy category). The stone was set in a Phillip Bloch designed ring with white diamond half moons flanking it. The ring was worn to the 2002 Academy Awards by Halle Berry, who accepted her first Oscar with the pumpkin diamond ring on her pinky.
