How to Sell Gold in Boca Raton: Purity, Weight and Comparing Offers
Planning to sell gold locally? Our Boca Raton gold selling service explains what to bring and how to arrange an in-person evaluation at Raymond Lee Jewelers.
Start with the gold you actually have
Unwanted rings, broken chains, single earrings and other gold jewelry can be worth evaluating. Keep pieces intact and bring any receipts or information you have. You do not need to polish, repair or remove stones before asking for an evaluation.
A stamp is a useful clue, but it does not establish purity by itself. Neither the country where a piece was purchased nor its appearance is a reliable substitute for assessment. If you are unsure whether an item is gold, ask the team before discarding it.
Understand weight and purity
Karat describes the proportion of gold in an alloy. For example, 18K is 75% gold and 14K is approximately 58.3%. The weight of a complete necklace or ring can include stones, non-gold components and other materials, so it is not necessarily the gold weight used in an offer.
Ask which weight and assessed purity the buyer used. Keep the unit consistent when comparing offers: grams and troy ounces are different measurements.
A gold market price is a reference, not a guaranteed payout
The market price of pure gold does not tell you the final amount a buyer will pay for jewelry. Purity, net metal weight, assessment, processing and resale considerations can affect an offer. A signed designer piece or diamond setting may also have value beyond its metal.
For complete pieces, see our jewelry evaluation service. Avoid removing stones or altering a piece solely to sell it as scrap.
Compare offers for the same items
- Make a simple list of the pieces you want to sell and set aside anything you want to keep.
- Ask how gold content, stones and any designer value were considered.
- Compare the final amount payable, including any deductions, rather than an advertised percentage alone.
- Confirm payment arrangements and whether an estimate remains subject to inspection before accepting.
What if you do not know the karat?
Bring the item for review and share any documentation you have. You do not need to identify everything yourself. For coins, bullion or unusual gold items, call ahead to discuss the appropriate evaluation.
