Best Golden Globes Jewelry
Best Golden Globes Jewelry
Last night kicked off 2013 Award Season! We had a blast Live Tweeting the red carpet arrivals with the rest of the jewelry industry. It also provided us plenty of handy notes to remember precisely whose looks we loved and whose we would leave. We also saw plenty of trends emerging – blue shades of gowns (Jessica Chastain, Nicole Richie, Lucy Liu), nude body huggers (Amy Adams, J. Lo, Isla Fisher) and RED (everyone else there) ruled the red carpet. On the jewelry front, the stars played it relatively safe, with a few standouts. Naturally, those memorable jewelry moments were our picks for best Golden Globes jewelry.
Julianne Hough
Look past the hairstyle ripped straight form Miley Cyrus’ head. Shield your eyes from her sparkly tulle concoction of a prom dress (sorry Monique Lhullier). Once you get past that mess, you can focus on her utterly cool jewelry. In contrast to her fairy princess ball gown, Julianne ran with an insect theme jewelry ensemble. She rocked Daniela Villegas’ gold and scarab beetle earrings, plus a gold praying mantis ear cuff. Tres cool.
Megan Fox
Kelly Osbourne went out on a limb and predicted that new mom Megan Fox might go more demure for her post-baby red carpet debut; she was wrong. Megan sashayed down the red carpet in skin tight, skin colored Dolce & Gabbana and the most incredible Lorraine Schwartz earrings. While she didn’t seem to thrilled to talk about her (awesome, free) ensemble, we were plenty excited to ogle those shoulder dusting coral, ruby, diamond and rose gold drop earrings. She also added a white gold diamond and ruby ring by Lorraine.
Amy Poehler
The blonde half of the duo that should be in charge of everything briefly walked the red carpet in a stunning Chopard lariat necklace. When faced with the harrowing choice of shirt vs. diamonds, always choose diamonds, and think of Amy when you do so. Her tailored Stella McCartney tux was pitch perfect, and this stunning platinum lariat featured 83 carats of round and asscher-cut white diamonds. Just in case that wasn’t enough, she added a pair of 10 carat round diamond studs to her ears, also by Chopard.
Jessica Alba
Hallelujah! Necklaces! Jessica was joined by Olivia Munn and Sally Field in donning fabulous diamond necklaces, but Alba’s was the definition of showstopping. Channeling Veronica Lake (and maybe a little Marilyn circa Gentlemen Prefer Blondes), Alba wowed in a coral mermaid Oscar de la Renta gown and $5.8 million worth of Harry Winston diamonds. We’re scouring the internet for more details on the necklace, but at first glance it appears to feature rounds, ovals (possibly pears) and emerald cuts or square modified brilliants.
Jessica Chastain
The red carpet darling and big winner unfortunately missed the mark in her ill-fitting Calvin Klein gown. The color was gorgeous, but the unfortunate bust draping and plain back made it look like a homemade toga party ensemble (and we’ve got our fingers crossed that she’s permanently lost the number of whoever did her hair last night). However, her Harry Winston jewels were a pleasant distraction. Her massive emerald cut drop earrings sparkled nicely and we couldn’t take our eyes off of her diamond webbed bracelet. Her rocks totaled a cool $3 million.
Taylor Swift
Swifty surprised us in Donna Karan Atelier last night. Looking very mature and shunning her usual fairy princess look, she smoldered in an eggplant duchess satin mermaid gown. She lost her usual red lip and gained hair that we didn’t love, but we are so glad sh wore it up to show off her gown’s incredible back. She paired it with gorgeous Lorraine Schwartz ruby drops. It definitely wasn’t Taylor’s night (she lost to Adele and then got made fun of by Amy and Tina), but she should take solace in the fact that her earrings were lovely.
And The Award Goes to…
In addition to our standouts above, there were a few honorable (and dishonorable) mentions. Plus, the newest jewelry trends the starlets showed off!
Biggest Missed Opportunity: Lena Dunham. Tattoos are not jewelry.
Best Performance by a Dramatic Print: Lucy Liu in Carolina Herrera; she also accented with her trademark Big Diamond Earrings.
Biggest Snub: Damien Francisco for Dog President.
Most Predictable: Sofia Vergara in a sparkly mermaid gown and tons of Lorraine Schwartz diamonds.
Best Boob Pockets: Jennifer Lawrence in Dior.
Hottest New Trend: Luxe arm parties. Friendship bracelets are out, diamonds are in.
Hottest Old Trend: The capital deep V. Showing off the other golden globes (newly single Amy Poehler, Alison Williams, Katharine McPhee).
Worst Spray Tan: Lea Michele, whose fabulous Lorraine Schwartz emeralds and diamonds still couldn’t distract us from her tan.
Most Obviously Missed Memo: The color red, which clearly doesn’t know that Emerald is the Color of the Year.
Most Obviously Missed Stars: Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone. Where are you?
Most Improved: Ryan Seacrest, who asked about jewelry not once, twice but multiple times.
