Piaget Unveils the Emperador Coussin Ultra-Thin Minute Repeater

Piaget has built a reputation for ultra-thin watches and its latest entry into this market takes thin to a new level. Piaget recently unveiled the Emperador Coussin Ultra-Thin Minute Repeater.

The watch is just 4.8mm thick for its movement. That’s impressive considering the watch has some 407 moving parts. Including the case, the timepiece is a total 9.4mm thin. Producing a watch with this much miniaturization takes exemplary engineering and craftsmanship. The Emperador Coussin Ultra-Thin Minute Repeater features both, and more. Some of the internal workings of the watch as literally as thin as a human hair.

Its most impressive feature, other than its slender build, is its remarkable acoustics. The 48mm round case has been hollowed out to the maximum to provide solid resonance. It is able to chime at 64 decibels and is tuned to perfection. As it strikes in the 5^th octave, the hours are pitched at G sharp, and the minutes at A sharp.

This Piaget proudly displays its inner workings for all to see. Taking a closer look between the 4 and 5 o’clock position reveals the inertia flywheel, where one can read “Toujours faire mieux que necessaire”. This is the Paiget motto that translates to “Always do better than necessary”.
