Watch of the Week: Patek Philippe 5070G

Ready for a doozie? This week’s featured watch is one that just screams luxury – if it’s possible to scream with just a look and in an entirely understated and elegant manner. And most likely in French.

With a dial that’s equal parts retro Spy movie and homage to Europe’s great clocks, this chronograph straddles the line between modernity and antiquity beautifully. Meaning this watch, like so many a Patek before it, will never go out of style.

The silver dial boasts slightly raised arabic number markers, a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock position, and seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock position. A simple seconds register for the chronograph seconds hand comprises the outer ring of the dial with a concentric tachymetric scale within. Elegantly tapered hands continue to elevate this watch.

The large 42mm case flows seamlessly into long, fluid lugs and hosts unobtrusive pushers and a rather large winding crown emblazoned with the Patek Philippe logo (mirrored on the clasp).

The 5070G’s transparent case back shows off its powerful manual wind PP Caliber 27 movement with 28 jewels and a 56 hour power reserve.

Luscious black croc leather is nearly as glossy as the polished white gold on the case and is secured by a decidedly elegant Patek emblem. We’re still drooling.
