Our Grammy Jewelry Top 5

Our Grammy Jewelry Top 5

Readers, this awards season may go down in history as the most boring ever. From a snoozefest at the SAG Awards, to the relative lack of bling at the Golden Globes, the celebs on the red carper just aren’t scratching our itch for major jewelry. Where are the diamonds (and no, we don’t mean studs)? Where is the heart-stopping moment of ruby madness? Is Jessica Alba the only one who can hear our pleas? We know Ryan Seacrest can’t – he willfully ignored the cries of the jewelry community last night as he again failed to ask stars who’s bling they were wearing. On a night when Beyonce wore a pantsuit and the most exciting trend we saw was knuckle rings (nothing against knuckle rings), we were left dejected, Tweeting our frustration, and crossing all of our bejeweld digits that the Oscars won’t let us down. Thankfully, a handful of stars and their trusty stylists displayed some sparkle that we still can’t stop talking about. Below are our picks for the top 5 best Grammy Jewelry looks.

5. Allison Williams

We missed the Girls star on the E! Red carpet, but she attended last night as Katy Perry’s date. Perhaps we were distracted by Katy’s…jeweled collar, but we are so glad we caught pictures of Allison today. The fresh face stunned in a Kaufmanfranco column gown encrusted in black diamonds. No Swarovski here! She added minimal jewelry (draped chain earrings in a rosy hue and a fun star ring) and just wow-ed us.

4. Rihanna

RiRi caught us off guard last night in a great way. While Rihanna always looks cutting edge fierce, she traded in her mesh crop top and bleached blonde frizz last night for soft, caramel waves, a gorgeous custom Alaia gown and red, red lips. While her interview with Seacrest seemed a little dazed, perhaps herbally enhanced, she looked fresh, feminine, and truly gorgeous. She accented her gown with a woven diamond bracelet, big diamond earrings and a few diamond rings – including a serpent one, year of the snake! – by Neil Lane.

3. Faith Hill

Faith and Gwen Stefani are now tied for world’s least aging person. Faith looked positively radiant last night in J. Mendel, and while we were initially focused on her sapphire stud earrings and pretty understated jewelry, the Mani Cam saved the day. Just as we were tweeting about another under accessorized singer, Faith popped her hand into every jewelry lover’s favorite addition to the E! Red Carpet. And holy. pinkie. ring. Faith rocked major ice by Lorraine Schwartz – still no carat count, but it was a massive emerald cut diamond set East/West in a platinum setting. We were so blown away by it, we didn’t even notice the amazing sapphire ring on her other hand! Of course, E! has NO pictures of the ring on their mani cam gallery (perhaps Ryan’s in charge of it) but you can watch the clip here.

2. Kelly Rowland

Ms. Rowland ripped up and threw away the Grammy’s dress code memo but no one is complaining. The singer looked jaw-dropping in her Georges Chakra couture gown and Lorraine Schwartz emeralds. Her large earrings showed off an angular deco motif and her doubled up emerald rings looked vintage. Leave it to Lorraine to pull out amazing emeralds, but Kelly stole the show in them – a match made in heaven!

1. Carrie Underwood

Carrie and her Jonathan Arndt jewels were our breath of fresh air last night. After the rappers were the only ones giving us any diamonds (in the form of studzZzzz – sorry, we fell asleep again) Carrie swooped in like a jewel encrusted goddess. Wearing a fitted Roberto Cavalli mermaid gown and soft blonde waves, Carrie’s 381 carat diamond necklace broke the record for most expensive red carpet jewels ever at $31 million. Praise Carrie, praise Jonathan Arndt, and praise the return of the red carpet necklace.

Honorable Metions

Most Frustrating – Kat Dennings, who bungled David Yurman’s name when Giulianna asked who she was wearing (ahem, Ryan). The 2 Broke Girls star flubbed Lerhman for Yurman and tried to make a joke, but to David Yurman – who just had their biggest red carpet “name drop” in recent history ruined – and who also probably paid to lend their fabulous yellow gold and diamond starburst suite to Kat, we’re sure it wasn’t funny. No one live tweeing the #grammyjewelry thought so either.

Most in Character – J. Lo, who inspired last night’s dress code restrictions, fittingly ignored the memo. Half bathing suit, half gown, whatever – we were ogling Jenny’s $5 million worth of Norman Silverman rocks. She piled on big diamond studs (10 carats), a gold statement cuff, gold and diamond pave bracelets, a 33 carat fancy yellow tennis bracelet and a few rings, doubling down on big diamond eternity bands. Both looked like they contained around 10 carats each, one oval and one round. Because when you’re J. Lo, why wear one eternity band when you can wear tw0?

Most Out of Character – Beyonce, arguably the biggest name in music, the woman who wore custom feathered Givenchy to the Met Ball, the woman who blew out the power at the Super Bowl, the woman on the arm of a man in a bespoke tux, showed up tot he Grammy Awards in a pantsuit. Bey, these are your Oscars, why did you dress like you’re headed to Clive Davis’ pre-party? And of course she looked amazing in it, but nonetheless where there’s Beyonce we expect dra-ma. And not even her black and white Lorraine Schwartz cuffs made it up to us.

Most Heartwarming – Pharrell Williams, who shall henceforth be known as the sweetest musician ever, wore a Lorraine Schwartz “Hope” bracelet, a collaboration between the jeweler and terminally ill children to raise money for treatment. Pairs well with Lanvin.
