The Corum Coin Watch

Like many of the luxury watch brands, Corum can trace its impressive roots to La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. It's really no wonder Corum chose this smaller city in which to open their first store in 1955, because it has one of the richest histories in regards to the watch making trade. The two original founders, Simone Ries & Rene Bannwart, both decided to join with the already established watchmaker, Gaston Ries. These three great minds then made hisrory when they combined to create a company that would rely on traditional craftsmanship but that would not adhere to traditional watch design. Of course, this led to some amazingly creative collections.

One example of Corums fantastically refreshing innovations is its one-of-a-kind Liberty Eagle Watch. This watch featured an actual $20 United States gold coin that was halfed, then a luxury movement was inserted and all three were inserted into a single watch case. These watches tended to have an open case back so that one could see and touch the gold coin visibile from the back. This watch became an world-wide best seller and helped to establish Corum as a true contender in the luxury watch market. Watch Repair.

As the decades wore on, the Corum Watch did not sit idly by they instead started to create a legacy of great watches. The Golden Bridge, Limelight, Romulus and the very popular Admiral's Cup collections were all then consequently released and afforded Curom the ability that it needed to grow. Corum has owed much of its success to its open-minded way of thinking, something that is rarely seen in the watch making industry, especially where luxury watches are concerned; many established brands would likely baulk at trying anything so drastically different. Corum, however, has the unique ability to be flexible, and this allows the company to better respond to market trends.

In 1998 a majority interest in the company was acquired by successful businessman Severin Wunderman. Mr. Wunderman has personally taken part in the business aspects of the company but has worked hard on continuing Corum's progressive attitude. In the meantime, the master watchmakers at La-Chaux-de-Fonds continue to produce the magnificent timepieces - including such masterpieces as the Minute Repeater and Minute Repeater/Tourbillon - which has garnered world wide recognition. Some of their most sought after pieces are the Admiral's Cup, Golden Bridge, Ti-Bridge Titanium and the Padlock watch.
